Industrialization of
Bio-Health/Medical Device
(M3384.000100)

Healthcare Information & Communications Technology (M3384.000200)

Designing and Implementation of Convergence Clinical Research
(M3384.000300)
For the basic principles of the bio-health and medical device industry, which is an area where research activities are active recently, and the overall learning required, this course acquires the ability to industrialize bio-health/medical devices such as research and development, clinical, licensing, production, and marketing, as well as the understanding and case study of technology, market, and economic analysis.

The utilization of information and communications technology(ICT) in healthcare and wellness·care are widely discussed and cultivated, triggered by social changes including an aging population, increasing chronic illness, and technology advancement. This course intends to provide basic understanding of informatics and its applications in healthcare at public health perspective. Moreover, discussed are roles of ICT in healthcare and public welfare fields and current status and future agenda in health-welfare technology policy.

Convergence Research entails integrating knowledge and expertise and it is being highlighted as an important means of solving complex problems focusing on social needs. In the medical field, the need of convergence research integrating different disciplines are growing rapidly, and it is expected to help overcome the intractable diseases and to improve the quality of lives of people. In this course, the latest clinical research trends are identified in relation to diverse technology such as artificial intelligence, big data, ICT, nanotechnology, genetics, and regenerative medicine. We are providing education that will develop the best research capabilities to design and implement clinical research based on innovative convergence across disciplines.

Statistical Analysis for Healthcare Big Data (M3384.000400)

Principles and Practices of Theranostics
(M3384.000500)

Machine Learning for
Bio-Signal Analysis
(M3384.000600)
It is not an easy task to analyze and interpret Big data from the health care field. This course will include the topics related to big data in health care produced from electronic health records (EHR), health insurance claim data, and social media. Students will learn basic statistics as well as practical skills on the subject. This course also covers research planning, experiment design, statistical analysis, results analysis, and reporting methods using health care big data.

The term theranostics is a portmanteau word of “therapeutics” and “diagnostics”. It refers to agents or techniques that couple diagnostic imaging with targeted therapy. In addition, it contains the meaning of providing customized treatment according to patient stratification based on biomarkers, which is in line with precision medicine. This lecture aims to understand the concepts and methodologies of theranostics and its clinical applications, and to develop convergence research skills for developing new theranostics.

This course aims to analyze bio-signal data and make a disease diagnosis and prediction using machine learning. Students are expected to learn various bio-signal data that can be acquired from the human body, including acoustic signals such as cardiopulmonary sound, respiratory sound, and voice, as well as electrical biological signals such as ECG (electrocardiography) and EEG (electroencephalography). Students will also study signal processing methods to analyze bio-signal data, and further learn to build a machine-learning model that can diagnose and predict disease.

Precision Medicine and Healthcare
(M3384.000800)

Principles and Realities of New Drug Development
(M3384.000900)
Precision medicine and healthcare are key elements of future medicine through the accumulation of medical information and the use of artificial intelligence. This course intends to give an overview of the various aspects of precision medicine and healthcare. The course will deal with genomics, medical images, artificial intelligence, and digital healthcare, providing a deeper understanding of precision medicine for students planning to pursue healthcare convergence studies.

Thanks to the rapid advances in biology and genomics, the development of new drugs is becoming faster and more extensive. Companion diagnostics or biomarkers that can predict the efficacy of new drugs are being actively developed. The aims of this course are to examine the process of new drug approval through the sequential stages of preclinical trials, first-in-human research, early phase clinical trials, and subsequent late phase clinical trials, and also to examine the relevant clinical pharmacological applications in depth. This course aims to cultivate students’ abilities and experiences that can be used in the development of new drugs.

Medical devices and Technolodges for Neurologic Diseases
(M3384.001000)

Advanced Regenerative Medicine and Biopharmaceuticals
(M3384.001100)
This course is designed to provide students with understanding of fundamentals, research trends, and future directions in the field of Brain-Machine Interface (BMI) technologies. Through this course, students learn basic principles in neuroscience as a basis of BMI technologies, enhance understanding of various neural stimulation and recording techniques used in BMI systems, such as EEG/MEG, ECoG, fNIRS, fMRI, MEA, and discuss about the eventual application of BMI systems.

Advanced Regenerative Medicine(ARM) is a remarkable future advanced medical technology. As the“Safety and Support of Advanced Regenerative Medical and Advanced Biopharmaceuticals (Advanced Bio Act)” was enacted, research and development (R&D) ecosystems for Advanced Biopharmaceuticals(AB) is changing rapidly. This course introduces the main contents of the Advanced Bio Act, 1) The definition of the ARM and AB, 2) Priority review system, 3) Customized Review system, and 4) Conditional approval. It aims to cultivate expertise in ARM and AB through specific examples of AB development process.
